Fifteen years telling stories for a living. Now telling the one that matters most.

Syd Smith spent fifteen years as a marketing executive at NBC Universal, building strategies for franchises that became cultural institutions — Universal Monsters, Jurassic Park, Seuss, and Marvel properties among them. She went on to create the McDonald’s Channel, an in-restaurant television network that reached millions of viewers daily and still operates nationally.

As Board Chair of Crestview Preparatory School through the pandemic, she watched kids come apart and parents struggle to find the words to help them. She’s also a mom. When her husband died of cancer in 2021 and the Eaton Canyon fire drove her from her home in 2025, her sons didn’t just survive. They thrived. This book is about the language that made the difference.
